The New Zealand Maths Numeracy Project. This site is quite extensive and offers activities, games, exemplars etc. for levels 1-6. Very worthwhile to look at even if you are teaching beyond these levels.

http://www.nzmaths.co.nz/numeracy/project_material.aspx

This is a very worthwhile site for all grade levels. This site includes many interactive activities in all strands to be played online.

http://www.shodor.org/interactivate/activities/

This site, E-Workshop from Ontario, is absolutely excellent for grades K-6. It provides ideas, activities, lessons, videos, professional development etc. in both Numeracy and Literacy. Definitely one to look at, and plan to spend a long time!

http://www.eworkshop.on.ca/cfmx/edu/core.cfm?p=home.cfm&L=1

I just stumbled upon this site after I had been to many of them within it. This site, Math for Everyone is for all grades. It is a “one stop shopping of math links”. It includes many of the links that I have listed here, as well as many other great sites. Direct links to math videos on Brainpop, coolmath, etc. In all, over 200 links shown in an easy to read chart format. Do not miss this one!

http://www.netrox.net/~labush/math.htm

Our own Provincial site, MECY, offers a wealth of material that you only need to download. It includes activities and games at both early and middle years, as well as a section on conceptual understanding of number.

Middle/Senior Years Math Sites:

This site is the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives-very helpful if you don’t have access to manipulatives in your building, as well great infusion of technology into math program.

http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/vlibrary.html

This site is the Learn Alberta one. Provides excellent interactive video, print sheets, etc. in all grade levels and subject areas. We must register as a guest only.

http://www.learnalberta.ca/

This site is the called the Math Frog site. It is for grades 4-6, and offers interactive games, activities etc. Outcomes are based on the Ontario Curriculum, and a teacher at the University of Waterloo develops these activities.

http://cemc.math.uwaterloo.ca/mathfrog/index.shtml

This site is called the Wired Math site for grades 7-9, and offers similar activities as above. Also developed out of the University of Waterloo.

http://www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/wired_math/english/about.shtml

This site is MathCentral, Regina. This site is an excellent site for locating resources, answers to any math questions you may have, problems of the month etc. This site is for all grade levels.

http://mathcentral.uregina.ca/index.php

This site is Daisy math which comes from Australia, for ages 3-12. Variety of activities for students to try, probably more of an “extra” or at home site for practice.

http://www.daisymaths.com.au/aboutme.html

An absolute must see site that comes from Ontario for grades 7, 8 and 9. Based on the Ontario Curriculum, but excellent resources that for the most part you could use as your main resource, or as a supplement.

http://www.curriculum.org/lms/tips4rm.html#grade7

http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/studentsuccess/lms/tips4rm.html#grade78

This is the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics site. Very worthwhile to bookmark. Both the Early Years Journal, (Teaching Children Mathematics, which is available to every early years school), and Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, come from this organization. Would be very worthwhile if you can utilize some in-school budget dollars to access this journal for middle years schools.

I am not actually sure where this site is located, but the Math Forum-Teacher’s Place has a wealth of activities, lesson plans, problems etc. all broken down into early, middle, senior and college level.

http://mathforum.org/teachers/

This site, webmath, is worthwhile to keep in mind to share with students. It is not set up as a game, but rather students can practice problems in almost every area of math in all grade levels. Great for those parents looking for “something” their kids can practice on. Good for K-12 and above.

http://www.webmath.com/index5.html

This site, math webquests, is a great one with explanations of what a webquest is, links to math webquests, links to how to create a webquest etc. Certainly infuses technology into the math program, and kids have a blast participating.

http://www.wfu.edu/~mccoy/NCTM99/

This site comes out of Saskatoon, and is also full of math webquests for all grade levels, but be prepared to do some looking for those that are still available, and that all links still work. This can be frustrating, as often all but one link will work, but this site does list a lot of them.

http://www.sesd.sk.ca/teacherresource/webquest/math.htm#Elementary

This site, triple aaa math is another site great to pass on to those parents that want more “homework” (ok, I’m not a big homework person), but if there is internet access at home, this site is broken into grade levels (which may vary some to ours), and includes a wide variety of lesson plans and opportunities for kids to practice.

http://www.aaamath.com/index.html

This site Kathy Schrock’s Guide for Educators provides an extensive list of links for some very worthwhile math sites, many of which have already been listed.

http://school.discovery.com/schrockguide/math.html

Ok, I don’t know who has this kind of time, but this teacher has a PowerPoint for every learning outcome in her grade 7-math class! Keep in mind that they may not match exactly with our curriculum, but the PowerPoint’s are really very well done, and saves a ton of work by simply downloading. I certainly would have been taking advantage of this site when I was in the classroom with kids. (book the projector for the whole year!!!)

http://angiegallacher.googlepages.com/home

This site is another teacher’s homepage, Terri Hustad’s, and as it states, it is for new and not so new math teachers. This is a great site that is really teacher friendly including links, activities, problems etc. Take a look.

http://people.clarityconnect.com/webpages/terri/terri.html

This site is a complete site of problems with answer keys to use with your students. Although it says it is for grades 4/5, I would suggest that many of them could be used at a much higher level.

http://www.rhlschool.com/math.htm

This is a cool webquest that your students can do in groups of three. Involves researching place value and designing their own number system. At the time that I found it, all links worked, but as in any webquest, worth checking. Includes the entire activity, black line masters, evaluation etc.

http://www.michielb.nl/maya/math.html

This is a Canadian Problem Solving site that you simply must check out! It is broken down into specific grade levels, give hints, and solutions. The site is located at St. Francis Xavier University for grades 5-12. Has about 45-50 problems per grade level, so could easily use as a problem of the week.

http://www.michielb.nl/maya/math.html

This is an interesting site, Countdown, in which specific math concepts are explained through short 4-7 minute video clips. Includes an expansive list of concepts.

http://countdown.luc.edu/index.html

I have no problem finding information from someone else’s hardwork, and the Winnipeg School Division is large enough to have wonderful resources in Math, and all subject areas for that matter. Very worthwhile to check out.

http://www.wsd1.org/PC_Math/

http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/jeather/maths/dictionary.html

A great math dictionary-about grades K-9 or higher?

http://www.ictgames.com/resources

I think this looks like a great site for interactive math activities about K-5 maybe.

http://math.rice.edu/~lanius/Lessons/index.html

This site comes from the Australian Numeracy Project for Middle Years. I would definitely check this out as it includes some real rich problems solving activities that our kids really need. Open-ended, can be solved in a variety of ways, engage the kids, involve a variety of computations or strands etc.
