STUDENT SERVICES

The Coordinator of Student Services will provide leadership and support under the direction of the Superintendent in the coordination of special education, support services and guidance within the Division, as well in other areas as defined in consultation between the Superintendent and the Coordinator. Fort La Bosse School Division provides clinical services under the supervision of the Coordinator of Student Services
These services include School Psychologists as well as Speech / Language Pathologists.

The Clinicians in Fort La Bosse School Division are well qualified professionals who are committed to provide schools with the clinical support necessary to develop programs so that students will, to the fullest extent possible, gain the knowledge and skills required to live responsible, meaningful and independent lives.


SERVICES
In order to provide a complete and effective service to the students and staff of the Division, the Clinical Services staff will:

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of clinical services are:
  • To provide support services that meet the needs of children and families within the school division.
  • To help the teaching staff provide a positive learning environment for children.
  • To identify problem areas and to help develop programs to suit children with social, emotional and other learning problems.
  • To promote awareness among school staff, other professionals, and parents about the nature of children's learning, behavior, and social difficulties and their impact on students.
  • To cooperate with local agencies, groups, and organizations, in establishing a community-based service which develops and uses local resources.

THE STAFF
School Psychologists - The school psychologist is involved with the assessment and treatment of students with educational, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. Follow-up includes working with students, parents, teachers and other school staff and community professionals.

Speech / Language Pathologists - The speech / language pathologist assesses communication needs in the areas of articulation, phonology, language, stuttering, and voice disorders. Therapy programs are designed to meet the individual needs of the student through direct treatment and / or consultation with school and home.

REFERAL PROCEDURE
Students in need of assistance are referred to clinicians mainly by school personnel. Prior to such a referral the need is addressed by the classroom teacher with school-based resource assistance. Referrals may also be received from parents. Parents may obtain further information by contacting the School Principal, or the Division Office at 748-2861 or 748-2692.
