We are continuing with our novel studies this week and getting some exam review work in as well. There are only 3 weeks of school left so we have a lot of work to get done before then. I have offered my noon hours twice a week for students to meet with me one on one for help with the exam.
November 23-27, 2009
Students are starting their Independant Novel Studies on Monday. Students had three options to choose from; The Stone Angel by Margaret Laurence, April Raintree by Beatrice Culleton, or All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. Students have been given an outline for their readings and assignments. Click on the novel title to view the outline that has been given to students. I will put the assignments up as they are assigned aswell.
We will also be starting a unit on Media and Advertising this week that will take us until Exam prep time. There are only 4 weeks of classes before the exam!! We will be reviewing for the exam the last week before Christmas Break.
November 10-13, 2009
We only have 3 days of classes this week so we have a lot of work to get finished up. Report cards come out next week and I believe that I have almost all assignments handed in. Check Maplewood to see if you have anything missing.
We started a Poetry unit last week and will be continuing it this week. This is a chance for students to be creative and to use their imaginations.
November 2-6, 2009
Halloween is over for another year!
This week we are going to be doing some Remembrance Day writing. Students have the opportunity to write poetry, short stories, essays, letters, etc. These writing pieces are due on Wednesday Nov. 4th.
There are 7 students that still need to hand in their Tuesdays with Morrie Final Assignment that was due over 10 days ago. This is worth a lot of marks and report cards are coming out in a week or so.
All Research Essay rewrites are due today. I gave students the opportunity to meet with me so that I could help them improve their essays. Serveral used this to their advantage, but I would have loved to see more do so.
October 13-16, 2009
We have just finished the novel Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. This is a very moving and life changing book that tells the story of a man that has been diagnosed with ALS and his reflection on life. There are many life lessons to be learned in this novel.
Students have been given their final project for this novel study. Tuesdays with Morrie Final Assignment All four parts of this assignment are due by October 22, 2009 at 3:35 p.m.
