No unusual absenteeism reported as of:

When a report of unusual absenteeism is received, the school contacts public health for expert advice and direction. Public health will tell the school if any changes need to be made to reduce the spread of infection, and the school will inform parents of these recommended changes. It is important to note that absenteeism reports may not be because of the flu. Absenteeism may be related to other medical or non-medical reasons. Oak Lake Community School (OLCS) is a growing rural school of 105 students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. The school has an enthusiastic, well-trained staff of ten teachers, and eightsupport staff which includes educational assistants, a nutrition coordinator, an administrative assistant, and a custodian. OLCS seeks to provide a positive and safe environment where students can develop potential and lifelong learning skills for an ever-changing world. It is our belief that a cooperative effort among family, community and school is necessary for responsible education. We believe that it truly does take a "whole community to raise a child".

As well as the required curricula, OLCS offers a variety of innovative and exciting programs to enhance each child's educational experience.

  • Oak Lake Community School was designated a community school in 2005.  Our program, "Building Character Today for Communities of Tomorrow" has is based on service learning projects beyond the walls of the school, and fosters key partnerships between the school, local community and cultural groups, and larger global community.  Our community schools connector, Ms. Kimorie Lees, delivers character education in K-8 classrooms and plans noon and after school programs, while acting as a liaison between the school and community.
  • A class-size reduction project entitled, "Numeracy with ICT", infuses numeracy instruction with information communication technology within smaller instructional groups.  Grades 3, 5, and 7 receive numeracy instruction from Mrs. Cheryl Klassen.
  • "French for All" is a K-8 French language program funded by the French Second Language Revitalization project.  Madame Cheryl Heaman team-teaches with classroom teachers to model best practices in French language instruction.  This inclusive program is delivered to all students, infuses ICT, and includes a variety of culturally-relevant experiences.
  • "Food for Thought" is our breakfast snack program that provides a healthy breakfast snack to each student and staff member at OLCS.  Mrs. Angie Wiens plans and prepares an exciting variety of delicious and wholesome snacks.
